More details have emerged, after Chelsea confirmed on
Wednesday, that they have reached an agreement with Real Madrid for
Alvaro Morata.
The Premier League champions will pay an
initial fee of £58million for the 24-year-old striker, who is set to
discuss personal terms and undergo a medical.
It is almost £20m less than the initial £75m Manchester United paid for Romelu Lukaku, who had been Chelsea’s top target.
The
£58m will still eclipse Chelsea’s previous record spend of £50m on
Fernando Torres in 2011. It is believed the add-ons could see the final
fee rise towards £70m.
Morata is currently in the US on a pre-season tour with Madrid, but will now leave to complete the deal.
